From Landfill to Library!

Shepherdstown Public Library is exploring building a new, green, state-of-the-art library and community learning center on the old Shepherdstown municipal dump site (a designated Brownfield) next to the Clarion Hotel. Please join us for a free conference, “Learning to Adapt,” to find out what’s involved in cleaning up a Brownfield, and to hear about this vision for a new library. Washington High School Theatre Department performs Almost, Maine on Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13, 2010. In this John Cariani romantic comedy, residents of remote, mythical town Almost, Maine are falling in and out of love in unexpected, often hilarious ways. Hali Taylor & Jared Scheerer at Studio 105
Hali Taylor will display a selection of her archived portraits in her annual photography show from November 27 through December 6.  Her black and white portraits span the last 25 years and feature residents of Shepherdstown.  In a departure from previous years, the portraits will be printed digitally by Mark Muse.  There will also be portraits featured at the Blue Moon. ACFF Announces November Slate
 The American Conservation Film Festival has rolled out a lineup of more than three dozen films for the annual festival, November 5–8. Films will be screened at venues throughout Shepherdstown, including the state of the art Byrd Auditorium at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Conservation Training Center, the historic Opera House Theater, and three screens on the Shepherd campus.

Good Shepherd Caregivers Fundraiser
Join Good Shepherd Caregivers at the Bavarian Inn, October 1 at 6:30pm for Tastes from Around the World. This fabulous indoor/outdoor event will feature four international cuisine stations and over 15 complementary wines. Master chef Wolfgang Vomend and the Bavarian’s wine expert, David Asam, will present German, French, South American, and Italian cuisines with accompanying wines. Student Climate and Conservation Congress
The Student Climate and Conservation Congress (Sc3), held June 28–July 3 at the National Conservation Training Center, was a partnership between NCTC and the Green Schools Alliance (GSA). Some 90 students between the ages of 14 and 18 from 20 states were nominated by their schools to attend. Thirty adult leaders from GSA member schools and the Fish and Wildlife Service served as mentors and leaders throughout the event. One-Day Workshop Loving Horses and Making Art
Artist Rebecca Grace Jones will offer a one-day workshop July 25, 9am–5pm, for adults who would like to be introduced to horses and experience their gift for inspiring people to find their creative voices. The workshop takes place on an 8-acre farm two miles from Shepherdstown. Jones taught art courses as a senior lecturer at Towson University and Maryland College of Art and Design for 12 years.
