Love Is a Battlefield

By Jasmine Edwards

Some people go through a struggle to love. They don’t know who to love. Sometimes people feel like their heart is going to explode. That’s why so many people use the expression “Love is a battlefield.” There once was a question I read on a shampoo bottle that asked what 20 percent of women do on Valentine’s Day. The answer was to send themselves flowers. So, however much people try to fight it, love will always be a battlefield. No kidding!

Valentines for Me

By Paige Conrad and Kathryn Ryan

Valentines are signed with x’s and o’s.
Valentines for me oh everyone knows.
What joy these gifts give to me.
Everyone wants to be my valentine, can’t you see?
My valentine is the best and the best of the rest.
I have to turn the rest down and they leave with a frown.
Next year they may have a chance
Maybe if they ask me to dance
Valentine’s night I received a letter
It really can’t get much better!

Love Is in the Air

By Luke Brown

Have you ever felt the wind across your face? Do you know what that means? It means love is in the air.
Do you know that feeling inside you? It is the same. Love is in the air.
What is something you can’t stop? Love, when it is in the air.
I hope you can find it on your own. Love is in the air.

The Day of Love

By Lucia Valentine

Pink and red and purple too
Valentine’s Day makes me think of you.
Come and join in the fun.
Valentine’s Day is number one.
We’ll sing and dance and have some candy.
This holiday is just so handy!
Scream and shout the whole day through
‘Cause Valentine’s Day makes me think of you.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

By Lucia Valentine and Jasmine Edwards and Dakota Edwards

On the third Monday of every January, schools and other public offices are closed in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Fifteen years after Dr. King’s death, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill into law to make this holiday for such a brave man. He was a very kind man who was aware that all people are equal. Martin Luther King, Jr. was always in danger. People were always mad at him but he stayed peaceful. He eventually was assassinated due to his bravery, but the world is a better place because of Martin Luther King, and there is a lot less racism. All people go to the same school, eat at the same restaurants, sit together on buses, and drink out of the same water fountains. This is a better world because of him. We are am glad that he existed because he made very important changes for all of us.

The Whale That Got Lost

by Ilan Briggs

Once there was a whale named Greg. He ate a lot and became very big, so he could not swim very fast.
One day Greg and his friends were playing a game of whale slapshot, but he could not play that well because he was so big. After a little while, the pod of whales started to migrate, but Greg was having trouble keeping up with the pod and got lost.
After the pod finished traveling to their winter home, Greg communicated using whale sounds and was able to find them.
