Shepherdstown’s Town Council is considering removing power lines in the downtown area. Bids to perform the work have been received from Alleghany Power, Frontier, and Comcast. The total cost to the town would be $126,500. The power lines and poles that have been targeted for removal are: Back Alley in front of the Smith’s house, next to McMurran Hall, at Queen Alley, and behind Town Hall. The Council tabled the matter for future discussion at its meeting in mid-February.
“I hope they share my view that is it a huge bang for the buck, “ said Hank Willard, who heads the Shepherdstown’s Streetscape Projec . “The benefit to the town would be aesthetic. It would allow us to get these wires out of the way and make the downtown area more attractive. Now is the time do to this before permanent changes are made as part of the major plans proposed by the Streetscape Project."
